DOUBRAVKA NOVOTNÁ - SOPRANO
Soprano Doubravka Novotná (MgA) was born in Hodonín in the Czech Republic. After graduating from the Brno Conservatory, she finished her Bachelor and Master degree at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in the studio of Helena Kaupová. She is a laureate of several singing competitions, such as the Contest of Conservatories in Pardubice, the Singing Competition in Olomouc or Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, where she also won several special prizes.
Doubravka gained her
first stage experiences during her studies at the
Brno Conservatory as Queen of the Night (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte), Die Kluge
(Orff, Die Kluge) or Susanna (Mozart, Le nozze di Figaro). She debuted at the
National Theater in Prague as Jano (Leoš Janáček, Jenůfa) in 2017 and since
then she performed many other roles there: Oscar (Verdi, Un Ballo in Maschera),
Young waiter/Child prodigy/Student (Janáček, The Excursions of Mr. Brouček),
First wood sprite (Dvořák, Rusalka), Queen of the Night (Mozart, Die
Zauberflöte), Zerlina (Mozart, Don Giovanni), Frasquita (Bizet, Carmen) and
Mařenka (Smetana, The Bartered Bride).
She regularly
collaborates as a guest with other Czech opera houses such as Theater of J. K.
Tyl in Plzeň, where she performed the role of Ophélia (Thomas, Hamlet) for which she was nominated for
the Thalia Award. She also performed there many other roles, among them for example Ilia
(Mozart, Idomeneo), Micaëla
and Frasquita (Bizet, Carmen). At the South Bohemian Theater in České
Budějovice she sung the role of Helen of Troy (Boito, Mefisto) and in the
National Theater in Brno she presented herself as Musetta (Puccini, La Boheme),
Queen of the Night (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte) and Morgana (Händel, Alcina). She performed the roles of Julietta (Martinů,
Julietta) and Elinor (Křička, Spuk im Schloß) in the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre and both of
those roles earned her the nomination for the Jantar Award.
Doubravka also specializes
in the authentic interpretation of early music, which she proved in the
performance of Bärbchen (Benda, Der Jahrkmarkt) in
cooperation with the ensemble Musica Florea. She also sung the role of
Il Davide at the scenic performance of oratorio Il Davide nella Valle di
Terebintho by Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf with the ensemble Studio Volantes.
The role of Morgana (Händel, Alcina), which she sang with the ensemble
Collegium 1704, earned her the nomination for the Thalia Award in 2022.
She also collaborates
with renowned Czech orchestras, for example Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and
the conductor Joseph Bastian at the Mahler's 4th symphony in 2022.
In the season 2022/2023, she will sing the main role of Madeleine in the jazz operette The Ball im Savoy by Paul Abraham at the State Opera Prague. She will also introduce herself as Nannetta (Verdi, Falstaff) and Valencies (Lehar, Die Lustige Witwe) at the National Theatre in Brno, as Eva and Bubikopf (Ullmann, Der zerbrochene Krug and Der Kaiser von Atlantis) at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, as Sirene (Dvořák, Armida) at the National Theater in Prague and finally as Cunegunde (Bernstein, Candide) at the J.K.Tyl Theater in Plzeň.
